Fixed bed dryer (Flatbed dryer)

The flatbed dryer has a simple design, in which paddy is laid flat on a perforated steel sheet in the drying bin, and dried by flowing arir mostly from below. This type of dryer can be used not only for drying paddy but also for various purposes.
The size of the flatbed dryer is represented by the area of the slatted floor, which ranges between 2 to 7 ?.
A size of about 3 ? is most widely used. Although the paddy laying section is generally flat, sometimes the floor might be inclined, or it ight be provided with a screw conveyor, a bucket elevator or a thrower for paddy discharge and rotation (stirring) to prevent uneven drying.
Storehouses installed with slatted floor, a frame, a fan, and a heater may be used as a dryer of this type.
Because the air bolume can be changed by varying the height of the paddy layer, this type of dryer can be used regardless of the moisture content of paddy.
The height of a paddy layer is usually about 40 cm.
The paddy loading capacity ranges between 400 and 1,700kg, and a capacity of about 800kg is most popular.
Combined with a recirculating batch dryer, it can be used for preminary drying, finish drying or fractional volume drying.
