Significance of rice milling technique

Rice milling is the last post-harvest process before cooking. Rice milling is a process to produce milled rice in a form that can be easily used by consumers and major buyers such as cooked rice makers and rice processors, to meet their varied needs.

Among the rice producing countries in the world, except for the rice milling by farmers themselves, the rice milling is mainly performed by production cooperatives or brokers (rice dealers).
There is also sometimes a system for milling rice directly under the management of a government or contracted by a government.
In Japan, there are many enterprise systems comprising one party that processes and sells rice.
In other words, the rice mills are managed by wholesalers or retailors.
Such systems are characteristic of rice milling process in Japan.
These systems operate at the point of contact between rice and consumers.
