Paddy supplied to husker in general has no uniform dehulling properties and moisture content varies.
If all the paddy is husked during a single pass, cracked and broken rice increase.
Therefore, husking ratio is set to 80-95% in general for operation.
Brown rice passing through the husker has 5-20% of paddy mixed. The latter should be separated and sent back to the husker.
Therefore, a paddy separator is required.
Paddy separators used at present are generally divided into the following types: 1) Shaking Tray type,
2) Compartment type, 3) Screen type.
The apparatus is illustrated in Fig. 1.
An arcing reciprocal motion is created in the direction of a lateral inclination.
