Rice Bran

What is rice bran ?:
Rice bran in Japan is defined as a mixture of pericarp, which is the bran layer on the surface of brown rice removed by rice milling, seed coat, outer endosperm, aleurone layer containing lipid and protein, and germs containing a large amount of lipid, protein, vitamin B, and vitamin E. (The majority of germs are crushed and only a few are left intact.) Although differing from the degree of milling, the ratio of rice bran to brown rice is about eight percent: consisting of five to six percent bran layer and two to three percent germ. In practice, powdered rice and small brokens are mixed in bran to give a ratio of about 9%.

Oil content and yield of oil extracted from rice bran:
Rice bran is a raw material of oil containing 17-21% of oil. In general, the yield of crude oil extracted from bran is about 19% using the solvent extraction method. The yield of oil meals (rice bran without oil) is about 76% in this case.
