Head Grains

What is Head Grain?

Head grain is grain that does not contain damaged grain, dead rice, immature grains, grain of other crops and foreign matter, and is evaluated for quality by comparison with standard samples for inspection. Head grains are those that have completed maturation. Grains with a higher head rate have a higher milling yield.

Head Rate

Take 20g of sample grains. Inspect each grain visually and select manually those that are superior to the standard immature rice in terms of fullness and have less damage than the standard damaged rice. Then obtain the ratio of the weight of selected head grains against the original 20g. At the inspection site both sample grains and standard samples of each grade for inspection are spread in one flat layer on inspection cartons (receptacle), so that it can be easily recognized if the volume of whole grains in the sample grains is larger than that of standard samples.
