Post-Harvest Process for Cereals

The post-harvest process for cereals (millets) is an important set of procedures that ensures the grains are preserved in good quality and made suitable for consumption or sale as rice.
Cereals include foxtail millet, proso millet, barnyard millet, buckwheat, Job’s tears, and sorghum, among others.
While each type may require specific handling, the basic flow of the post-harvest process is generally the same.

Harvesting

・Harvesting at the right maturity stage is crucial.
・Methods include manual harvesting (by sickle) or using small-scale combines.
・Harvest too early → immature grains.
Too late → grain shattering and loss
