In-storage drying (In-bin drying) conditions in Japan

The results of a survey of the relation between in-bin drying conditions, when rice is stored and dried in a natural environment during the harvest season, and quality were given above. The quality of grain during in-bin drying is believed to change greatly with changes in initial moisture content, air flow rate, and drying air temperature and humidity. The relation between initial moisture content and air flow rate, with temperature and humidity added, and quality is shown in Figs. 12, 13 and 14. The straight and curved lines in the figures show the relation between initial moisture content and the recommended air flow rate safety limit for operation of in-bin dryers installed in drying facilities in Japan. A shows the case in which the air temperature during the harvest season is relatively low. B is the case in which it is relatively high. The air flow rate must be set so that it is to the right of the lines.
